Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams Gov. Greg Abbott of the Texas Republic for “Deep Ignorance” on pro-life legislation on Tuesday after he protected the ban on 6-week fetus abortion earlier this week.
Anderson Cooper, the New York Democrat, stated to CNN, “He speaks from such a place of deep ignorance … and it’s not just ignorance, it’s ignorance that’s hurting people across this country,”
She responded to Abbott’s words in defense of the abortion ban issued by the Controversial Texas law saying a pregnant woman cannot abort a 6 –week fetus or above, making it the strictest law in the nation that forbids abortion before the women know they are expecting. The law clearly states that once the fetus gets its heartbeat, one cannot abort it, and the same goes for incest and rape cases – however, there is some exception for medical-related emergencies.
After the law was issued, Abbott tried his best to defend the six weeks period in which abortions are allowed yet, and he promised to work with his best efforts to “eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas.”
Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez called Abbott’s comments “Disgusting” as he is protecting a law directed to “controlling people who are not cisgender men.”
She stated, I’m sorry we have to break down Biology 101 on national television, but in case no one has informed him before in his life, six weeks pregnant means two weeks late for your period. And two weeks late on your period for any person — any person with a menstrual cycle — can happen if you’re stressed, if your diet changes, or for no reason at all. So you don’t have six weeks,”
To address Abbott’s promise of eliminating rapists, the Congresswoman of New York argued, “these aren’t just predators that are walking around the streets at night.”
She addresses Cooper saying, they are someone’s uncles, aunt’s, teachers, and family members, who when something this sort happens, don’t want to come forward to talk about it. Most of them don’t even want to bring out the case in the carceral system. It is like re-traumatizing them to bring about the incident and talk about it. All alone, they are the ones who deal with the aftermath of such events.
When the law came into enforcement, supporters of abortion law came out in Texas with a divided approach of three parts, starting with the providence of women with the necessary medical care to the financial resources.
Moreover, medical facilities are heading to block civil rights lawsuits as many as they can as they hope they would ultimately get the attention of the Texas Supreme Court. Lastly, they have demanded Joe Biden’s Administration to look into the matter and provide ways to defend abortion rights for women.
