São Paulo, Brazil – President Jair Bolsonaro was taken to hospital due to severe abdominal pain early on Monday, which most suspects was linked to a stab wound he received during his presidential campaign back in 2018.
Key Facts:
- UOL, a Brazil based news outlet, reported that Bolsonaro was taken to a hospital near São Paulo right after he was welcomed into the city in a Brazilian Air Force plane on Monday
- It was further reported that the president had to cut short his year-end vacation in Santa Catarina.
- Antônio Luiz Macedo, the surgeon who treated Jair Bolsonaro’s wounds that he got in 2018’s incident, is expected to fly from the Bahamas to São Paulo on Monday for immediate treatment for the Brazilian president.
- Currently, the president has been kept under observation, and it is yet to determine whether surgery is required for treatment or not.
Bolsonaro could be suffering an “intestinal sub-occlusion” said Macedo. “He will have a CT scan and more tests to find out what is in his abdomen. We don’t know it yet, but the condition could have been caused, for example, by poorly chewed food, among other factors.”
Bolsonaro doctor Antônio Luiz Macedo said, the president had abdominal pains, Globo quoted.
Reportedly the surgeon who treated the president for the stabbing wound he had in 2018 was on vacation in the Bahamas and now is waiting to catch a flight back to the city to visit him.
Since the 2018 incident, Bolsonaro has suffered stomach pains and has undergone surgery multiple times.
In July 2021, the president was admitted due to severe hiccups caused by an interstitial blockage. Though, he did not undergo surgery for that as it was cured shortly. Previously, he underwent four surgeries due to the stab wound.
