A coroner’s report has indicated that filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee died of natural causes.
On Christmas Day, fans were shocked to learn that Dallas Buyers Club filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee had died at the age of 58. A preliminary report released on Christmas Eve said that “Mr. Vallée’s death was not caused by the intervention of another party, a voluntary act, or a known disease.”
Coroner’s report claims the filmmaker died of “fatal cardiac arrhythmia secondary to severe coronary atherosclerosis,” according to a family statement issued on Wednesday.
The filmmaker’s death came as a shock to many since he was an active fitness fanatic who avoided alcohol in his daily life.
The Wim Hof method, which entails exposure to cold temperatures and a series of unusual breathing exercises, was also a part of his routine.
During his marriage to Chantal Cadieux, Vallee fathered two children, Alex and Emile.
A statement from Alex and Émile Vallée reads, “Testimonials of friendship, esteem and respect for our father and for his work are still coming from around the world.”
“We are sincerely grateful and we hope that his creativity will continue to serve as inspiration and guidance to the people in this industry that he was so passionate about,” his sons concluded.
In addition, the director’s family has said that they will provide more information about upcoming commemorative events for Jean-Marc Vallee in the near future.
On March 19, 1963, he was born in Montreal and graduated from Quebec University with a degree in cinema.
Liste Noire, his first feature film, was nominated for seven Genie Awards in Canada, including best picture, during the late 1980s and early 1990s, as he began directing music videos and short films.
He became a sought-after celebrity in Hollywood because of the popularity of the film, which starred Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey and received six Academy Award nominations, including best picture.
The next year, he directed Demolition, starring Naomi Watts and Jake Gyllenhaal, before making the move to television, where he has since directed two highly regarded TV shows.
He directed all eight episodes of HBO’s Sharp Objects and all seven of the first season of Big Little Lies aired on HBO.
