Victoria Ekanoye who played the part of Angie Appleton in the famous Coronation Street appeared to be happy and playful as she was joined by her friends’ models Amy Anzel and Rhian Sudden. Both have made appearances in the BBC series The Apprentice.
The trio enjoyed the night together at Australasia in Manchester while the former Corrie star and a new mum, Victoria Ekanoye opened up about her battle with cancer.
The actress who has famously worked in the Lion King as well as in the Royals next to Liz Hurley revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer soon after the birth of her first child.
She stated that she felt a lump in one of her breasts while breastfeeding her son Theo and decided to visit a doctor immediately. She visited three separate doctors to get a verdict and had a feeling that there was something wrong with her.
The diagnosis came on October 13th that she was with DCIS – ductal carcinoma in situ which in a simpler form, means that the cells present in the milk ducts have become cancerous.
Victoria Ekanoye will be undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstruction.
Talking candidly about her diagnosis she stated “It’s taken the wind out of our sails a little bit. I feel lucky because it could’ve been at a point where I was facing not being around for my baby boy which is not something you ever want to even think about.”
She further added, “I don’t want to look over my shoulder for the rest of my life”.
“I have sickle cell and it just complicates the entire process. It will take 3/4 hours. They will have to remove all my blood and replace it with non-sickle blood.”
Victoria Ekanoye is the ninth person in her family to be diagnosed with cancer and the fifth one to have breast cancer.
