In a pre-recorded video, played at a Freeport rally in Texas on the weekend, Former President Trump first wished Ashli Babbitt, a rioter of the January 6 Capitol attack, and has also asked the Department of Justice to reopen her case for further investigation.
In the video, the Former President has shown “unwavering support” for Babbitt and has praised her as a “truly incredible person.”
Ashli Babbitt was a California-based conspiracy theorist and an Air Force veteran, who was killed by one of the present US Capitol Police officers.
In the Birthday video of Ashli, the Former also shared his view that there “was no reason Ashli should have lost her life that day.” He also called the Department Of Justice to reopen her case again and begin the investigation to bring her justice.
The case was closed by the Federal agency in April as there was “insufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution”
While remembering the Capitol attack the Former President said, “That horrible day of January 6, Ashli arrived at the U.S. Capitol. She was shot and tragically killed.” He further added, “Today would have been her birthday. Happy birthday, Ashli.”
Ashli Babbitt was killed while she tried to get into the Speaker’s Lobby through a broken door. The DOJ closed the case without charging Babbitt’s shooter, Lt.Michael Byrd. The department felt it was “in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber.”
Moreover, the officer has given a clean chit in an internal investigation as well with a conclusion, “potentially saved members and staff from serious injury and possible death.”
