With the coronavirus rapidly spreading, disinfection is more important than ever. And due to the increasing demand for sanitizers, you may find it difficult to find them in the shops. “Sold out” or “not available” are currently the usual answers when looking for disinfectants, and this is true about face masks and similar products.

Regardless of whether it is online or a physical store: such products have become a scarce commodity in no time, especially after the pandemic alert.

Fortunately, you can also make some things yourself, such as hand sanitizer. Let’s see, how to make homemade hand sanitizer.

WHO instruction for hand sanitizer

The World Health Organization has issued instructions to make hand sanitizer at home to put the pressure off from the market.

There are two options when it comes to homemade hand sanitizer: one being ethanol-based and the other is alcohol-based. Below you will find the recipes with which you can make your own hand sanitizer at home.

Ethanol-based
Ethanol (96%)
Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
Glycerol (98%)
Sterile distilled water (boiled and cooled)

Alcohol-based
Alcohol (99.8%)
Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
Glycerol (98%)
Sterile distilled water (boiled and cooled)

Both solutions can be used for hand disinfection after bottling. For the exact preparation of your own disinfectant, please visit the World Health Organization website.
