On Friday night in Detroit, Jack White got engaged and married onstage.
According to an article in the Detroit News, In front of a packed house at Masonic Temple, White, 46, brought vocalist Olivia Jean on the stage for a duet of “Hotel Yorba.”
Surprised Jean accepted the proposal after White addressed the audience, “it’s been such a great day, mind if we get married right now?”
Jack White had a very busy day, to say the least. “Fear of the Dawn” is his first solo album, and he also sang the national anthem during the Detroit Tigers’ season opening.
Third Man Record’s co-founder Ben Swank, together with the singer’s bandmates, parents, and officiant, came on stage to make the wedding official.
According to reports, Swank stated, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”
Since White doesn’t allow mobile phones during his gigs, the marriage went uncaptured.
White has now been married three times. He and Meg White, a member of the White Stripes, were married for three years from 1996 to 2000. In 2005, he wed model and singer Karen Elson, with whom he divorced two years later.
On Saturday, White will perform once again at the Masonic Temple.
