The boxing legend and the former undisputed Champion, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, has left everyone saddened as his wife announced his death on Saturday. He died at the age of 66.

The demise of the legend was announced by his wife Kay Hagler on Facebook. Kay shared her pain of losing her beloved husband and has requested people to respect the privacy of her family at this point of her life.

According to his wife, the legend of the ring passed away unexpectedly in his home in New Hampshire and the cause of death is yet to be known.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler, the undisputed champion, was born as Marvin Nathanial Hagler on the 23rd of May, 1954 in Newark, New Jersey. His early days were spent in Newark but his family later moved to Brockton Massachusetts after the Newark Riots.

He started his boxing career after being beaten by a local street boxer, who he, later on, beat himself. He went into a gym in 1969 which was owned by the Petronelli Brothers who later on trained and managed him. He even lied about his age and claimed to be 16 when in reality he was 14 to enter into amateur boxing tournaments. His real date of birth was revealed when he went to change his legal name from Marvin Nathanial Hagler to Marvelous Marvin Hagler in 1973. His boxing career saw him earn the World Boxing Championship which he had defended many times.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler, dies at 66 Hagler became one of the greatest middleweight fighters with a Southpaw stance earning him the nickname the “New Jersey Southpaw”. He had a longstanding career where he took part in 67 matches. 62 of those were wins in which 52 were straight knockouts, 3 of those lost while 2 ended in a draw.

One of the most significant and noteworthy fights of Marvin was with Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, and Sugar Ray Leonard.

His fight with Sugar Ray Leonard proved to be the last fight of his boxing career which was held in 1987 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. His opponent had beaten him through a split decision-taking from him the title of the World Boxing Champion and the Ring Middleweight. The win for Sugar Ray Leonard proved to be one of the most controversial and debated in the history of the sport.  Many authors, writers, journalists, talk show hosts, and analysts in sports publications are of the opinion that this fight was supposed to be a win for Hagler.

Many notable people and Publications sent their condolences to the family. Some of them being Frank Warren, Rex Chapman, Danny Deraney, Big E Ewen, and Eddie Hearn.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler was also introduced into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. Several publications have named him one of the best middleweight boxers of all time. Ring magazine has placed him fourth on the list of the best middleweights of all time.

After his defeat by Sugar Ray Leonard and the loss of his titles, Marvin Hagler moved to Italy where he became an action film star. He was starred in Indio and Indio 2 and also acted in Virtual Weapon. He also commentated for boxing on British television and worked in a video game called Fight Night: Round 3.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler was married twice. Once with Berta with whom he has five Children called Charelle, Celeste, James, Marvin Jr, and Gentry. In May 2000, he married Kay Guererra, who is an Italian national.

Marvin Hagler died in his Bartlett, New Hampshire Home on 13 March 2021 at the age of 66 leaving an undisputed legacy for generations to come.
