Former “Suits” star Meghan Markle opens up about her life as part of the British royal family and what led to their exit, the famous fallout, and much more in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duchess of Sussex shared her experiences like a royal in a candid and explosive one-on-one interview “Oprah with Meghan and Harry, a CBS primetime special”.

The 39-year-old Markle discussed her sore start as a royal and her first interaction with Queen Elizabeth II. The Duchess also talked in detail about her relationship with the fellow royals.

It was a tough experience for her to reminisce all her time spent as a royal. It was painful where she was silenced to comment and forced to follow certain rules to live up to the expectations. She claimed that there’s a difference between the actual royal family and the people who are running the royal institution by staying behind-the-scenes.

She was all praise about the Queen. She acknowledged that the Queen was always supportive of her. She even gifted her a pair of pearl earrings and a matching necklace. She found the Queen very warm, welcoming, and inviting.

In the interview with Winfrey, she also explained the reasons which led to them quitting the royal life. The unbearable interventions from the media and the racist attitude of the British tabloids were too overwhelming for the couple to endure. Meghan claimed that constant pressure for being under the microscope had triggered suicidal thoughts.

Harry could see her struggle and was more than a supportive husband, but he was always trapped in ‘unseen chains’ and could not defend her openly. She stated that she tried to seek help, but was allegedly stopped by a senior member of the royal family because her receiving any kind of mental health care will be reflected poorly in the media and will bring a bad name to the royals.

Being the first person of mixed race to become a part of the British royal family, she was not welcomed as deserved by the royals as well as the general public. There were always concerns and conversations regarding the skin color of her first-born.

Harry also joined in and supported the statements made by Meghan Markle. How the interview will be received by the royals is still unknown, but it is bound to bring some anguish and criticism from the United Kingdom.
