An armed group of attackers stormed into a house where a holiday party was being hosted and started fire, killing four men in north-central Mexico on Saturday.

It has been reported that two additional individuals were injured in the shooting by prosecutors in the state of Guanajuato. The incident took place just before daybreak on Saturday in Cueramaro, which is close to the border with the state of Jalisco.

There was no immediate word on a probable motivation for the assault at the time of publication.

The Jalisco drug cartel, on the other hand, has been waging a campaign to retake territory from local gangs in Guanajuato. It is the state of Guanajuato, an agricultural and industrial state, that has the highest rate of murders in Mexico.
