19-year-old Miya Marcano’s dead body was found near an apartment complex in Orange County, Florida, a few days ago. She was identified a week after going missing in this county sheriff’s statement. She lived and worked in the Arden Villas Luxury Apartments in Orlando, near where her body was also found.

“Obviously, this is not the update I wanted to give to everyone today. Our hearts are broken. Everyone wanted this outcome to be different.” John Mina, Sheriff Orange county said in the press conference.

Even though no cause of death has been given yet by the chief medical examiner for Orange County, the investigative officers have made clear their most likely suspect in the case is Armando Manuel Caballero. He was also considered a person of interest due to his presence near Miya Marcano’s apartment during the time she went missing. Soon after her disappearance, 3 days to be exact, on September 27, Caballero took his own life.

“We are not looking for any other people. We believe pretty conclusively that Armando Caballero is responsible for this crime,” said Sheriff John Mina.

There has been outrage over the internet including reporting and on social media regarding the case as one of the latest additions in a long list of gender-based violence.

Her body was found at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, near Tymber Skan which is considered to be 18-20 miles away from her home. Miya Marcano was supposed to fly home to Fort Lauderdale, the day she went missing, but never made the flight.

“We can’t imagine the pain, the anguish, that Miya’s parents, family, loved ones, the friends, and really our entire community have gone through and will continue to go through,” Mina said in a press conference Saturday. “On behalf of the men and women in the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, we offer our deepest condolences.”
