Money Heist is back with season 5

So before you jump to the 5th season, have a small recap of what has happened in the show so far.

La Casa De Papel is a Spanish crime drama series that features an intelligent man popularly known as the professor (Alvaro Morte), who recruits a team of thieves to prepare for a big heist.

Recap of Season 1 & 2

Season 1 and 2 were based on the Royal Mint Heist of Spain, in that the robbers tried to confiscate the place and printed €2.4 billion cash to escape with.

With the help of the professor (who planned the entire heist), the Team members Berlin (Pedro Alonson), Tokyo ((Úrsula Corberó), Rio ((Miguel Herrán), Oslo (Roberto García Ruiz), Moscow (Paco Tous), Nairobi (Alba Flores), Denver (Jaime Lorente) and Helsinki (Darko Perić) entered the place to pull off the plan.

The first heist was split into the first two seasons, with the first season focused on making the team and planning with the professor over 5 months. In between, the story was interchanging with the present and the past, involving scenes from the heist as well.

The eight robbers who broke into the property put the plan into action by first keeping the hostages and managing the chaos and then began the money printing mission. They threatened the hostages to help them print the money and dig the escape tunnel. The professor was negotiating with the police and ended up romantically involved with the negotiator Raquel Murillo.

Despite having a full-fledged plan, the members of the heist faced multiple setbacks that involved hostages trying to escape, shootouts, rebellion amongst the members, while on the other hand, the professor’s identity was close to being unveiled several times.

The 2nd season ended with all the members successfully escaping the Royal Mint with €984 million after spending 128 hours in the heist and losing Berlin, Moscow, and Oslo’s lives.

Recap of Season 3 & 4

Season 3 & 4 is based on another heist that the group planned to save Rio from Europol.

Berlin introduced the idea to take over the Bank of Spain when the professor was planning the first heist. So, this time the professor decided to go with late Berlin’s plan to save Rio.

Now the professor and Raquel – who joined the Team with a codename Lisbon in the 3rd season, took off to gather the Team. This time the Team involved some new members as well, including Stockholm (Monica Gaztambide) Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian), Marseille (Luka Peroš), and Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna) – who led the Team.

With Palermo in charge of the Team, the robbers broke into the Bank of Spain, took hostages, and collected gold and state secrets. At the same time, the professor stayed outside with Lisbon to dodge the police.

The pregnant negotiator Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) and Colonel Luis Tamayo (Fernando Cayo) were forced to let Rio go; however, in return, they successfully captured Lisbon and Nairobi.

Season 3 ended when the professor declared war against the Spanish police, and season 4 starts with the robbers rushing to save Nairobi and Tokyo taking over the charge from Palermo.

To take back the charge, Palermo started working alongside a hostage named Gandia who was also head of security in the Bank. Gandia somehow managed to escape and developed communication with the officials camping outside. He killed Nairobi before he got caught again.

Meanwhile, the professor revealed the torture, Rio faced in the police custody and Lisbon’s arrest, leading to Sierra’s dismissal.

Lisbon joined the remaining members in the Bank after the professor saved her from the police. However, unfortunately, season 4 ends with Sierra pointing her gun at the professor and finding his hideout.

Stay tuned to know what will happen next as the first volume of season 5 is releasing on Sept 3, 2021.
