NORTH PORT, Florida -After Brian Laundrie’s case investigators broke the news of discovering human remains from the Florida wilderness park, his family felt “heartbroken,” – says Laundrie’s family attorney, Steven Bertolino.

“It’s quite sad, you can imagine as a parent, finding your son’s belonging alongside the remains,” stated Bertolino to CNN. “That’s got to be heartbreaking. And I can tell you that they are heartbroken.”

He further said that “the probability is strong that it is Brian’s remains.”

On Wednesday, the investigator shifting the sprawling Carlton Reserve discovered the human remains along with Laundrie’s backpack and notebook. The discovery may end the search for Gabby Petito’s fiance, who has not returned home since September. The officials suspect him as a person of interest in Petito’s death case.

After the long-going search, FBI official Michael McPherson found the remains and his belongings in the area of the previously underwater park. He further stated in a press release that the identification for remains would be conducted soon, and the crew will stay at the location for several days.

“I know you have a lot of questions, but we don’t have all the answers yet,” said Michael McPherson. “We are working diligently to get those answers for you.”

On Tuesday, Laurie’s parents asked the North Port Police Dept and the FBI to join them in the search for their son. They met the officials at the park on Wednesday morning – said, Bertolino.

While the parents walked down the trail, Chris Laundrie stepped on the side “zigzagging in different areas” and discovered a white bag. Chris then met with the investigating officers who had found remnants with a backpack – Bertolino said.

Gabby Petito and fiance Brian Laundrie, have been sweethearts since their college days. In July, the two went on a road trip from Florida to New York and towards the Westside in Petito’s white Ford. After having a fun time on the vacation, with multiple photos and social media posts, Brian Laundrie returned home safely while his fiance went missing.

Later in September, Brian’s parents reported him missing after going on a hike at the park. Since then, he never returned, and now on Wednesday, the officials discovered human remains from the nearby park where he went.

The remnants will be sent for examination for identification.
