Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis slammed Trevor Noah for “lying” regarding his presence at last week’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner last week, claiming that he had no interest in attending the annual event in the first place.
Trevor Noah claimed that Ron DeSantis was in the crowd at one point during the broadcast before launching a few digs at the phantom Floridian before the show’s conclusion.
“One of my favorites, Ron DeSantis, is here,” Noah declared. “Oh man, I’m actually surprised that he found the time. You know he has been so busy trying to outmaneuver Trump for 2024. I see you, Ron. I see you, player.”
DeSantis stated on Monday that he was not in attendance at the event.
While speaking at a news conference, DeSantis said that “I would never attend that”. He was also questioned about Noah’s routine to which he replied “I have no interest in that.”
“Why they would want to perpetuate a lie about that I don’t know,” DeSantis said. “But I think it just shows you why that cabal of people in DC, NY is so reviled by so many Americans. I think it’s a reputation that’s been well-deserved.”
On many recent Florida incidents, Noah took aim at Gov. Ron DeSantis, including the state’s decision to prohibit what the Department of Education considered unnecessarily politicized math textbooks.
“You’re smarter than him, you’re slicker than him, you can walk down ramps,” Noah said. “Because you see, no, Trump said he won the election, but everyone was just able to look at the numbers and see he was wrong. That’s why Ron DeSantis is one step ahead, first you ban the math textbooks, then nobody knows how to count the votes. Boom, my man!”
Despite the fact that DeSantis’ office had received an invitation to the event, he said on Monday that the invitation had been “rejected.”
