A new variant of the COVID-19 that was first identified in the UK is spreading rapidly across the United States

According to a new study, the number of infected cases has increased in the past few days, and it can cause a new crisis in the country.

The study conducted by the research team at the Scripps Research Institute has comprehensively reviewed the virus spread and has warned about the contagious nature of the new coronavirus variant.

The new variant of the COVID-19 is called B.1.1.7 and is now spreading at an alarming rate according to researchers. The research team has also analyzed the genetic sequence from the samples collected.

It is also presumed that the new variant entered the United States from several border points in November.

According to researchers, the spread of this highly contagious variant is almost 40% higher than the previous samples and it is doubling every 10 days.

The United States is the country most affected by the pandemic with more than 460,000 deaths and over 27 million cases.

Although the current vaccine available in the United States is found effective against the new UK variant, people are advised to keep using the masks and follow other precautions.

Chris Whitty from the UK government had also previously warned against the new variant. As the Chief Medical Officer, he had also alerted other governments and the WHO about it.

In the United Kingdom, the new coronavirus variant has affected the areas of London, Kent, and Essex, following which the administration has enforced new restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.

The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has supported the efforts to contain its spread. This alarming spread of the contagious virus has put new pressure on the world governments.

Although the number of cases reported in the United States is lesser than the ones reported in the UK, due to its contagious nature it has the potential to create havoc.
