Stellantis to Build First Electric Ram 1500 at Sterling Heights Assembly Plant
Global automotive giant Stellantis recently announced that its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan will be the production hub for the highly anticipated Ram 1500 REV, the company’s first fully electric pickup truck. Scheduled for launch later this year, the REV will join the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, an extended-range electric pickup, on the Sterling Heights assembly line. Notably, these electric vehicles will be produced alongside the plant’s existing internal combustion engine models.
Multi-Energy Investments Drive Michigan Manufacturing
To support its multienergy strategy, Stellantis is investing a substantial $406 million in three Michigan facilities. This investment includes upgrades to the Warren Truck Assembly Plant for the production of the electric Jeep Wagoneer and the Dundee Engine Plant for battery tray production and battery-related processes.
Sterling Heights Assembly Plant Commended for Transformation
Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares praised the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant for its remarkable transformation in record time. “Gearing up to build our first-ever Ram electric truck and the range-extended version in Michigan is a meaningful moment of pride for our teams,” Tavares said. “With these investments supporting both Jeep and Ram, we’re adding innovations to our Michigan manufacturing footprint to support a multi-energy approach that is laser-focused on customer demand.”
Welcome News Amidst Recent Challenges
The announcement of electric vehicle production at Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is a welcome development for the region, especially in light of recent layoffs at Warren Truck due to the discontinuation of Ram 1500 pickup production.
