Kanye West donated to a democratic candidate further adding to the damage he has already done
When it comes to politics and Kanye West, he seems to be changing his views too often. First he was seen to be an Obama supporting Democrat by the media. Then no sooner did the government changed, he became a Trump fan very quickly as he was seen wearing the cap that said, “Make America Great Again“. He realized sometime later that he was associating himself with a man that has referred to white supremacists as ‘very fine people’ and is known to lock children in cages. As he stopped supporting the Trump campaign, he tweeted a few times, suggesting that he was being used in order to spread messages he does not believe in. He claimed that his eyes are now ‘wide open’ and he promised to keep away from politics.
Unfortunately, Kanye West’s decision to stay away from politics didn’t last long. As per the information provided by The Chicago Tribune, Kanye West has given a total contribution of around $200,000 to the democratic Chicago mayor candidate, Amara Enyia. He has donated about $73,540 to the campaign in the last week and donated a further $126,460 more recently to Enyia.
In fact, Kanye West also appeared with Enyia in a rally last week. Enyia also has the support of another musician, Chance the Rapper who has also spoken at quite a few of her rallies. Kanye on the other hand, stood quietly at her rallies without saying anything in the background.
Similar to his in-law, Caitlyn Jenner, Kanye West seems to have learnt how wrong he was in supporting Trump. His change of heart however, is seen to be a little too late though, as it comes right before the midterm elections. Many people are questioning Kanye’s change of heart though, as there are plenty of images of him cozying up to Trump in the Oval Office. At one time he even suggested that the 13th amendment which bans slavery, should be abolished causing an uproar. Moreover, he also alleged to have designed clothing for a movement called ‘Blexit’ which encourages black people to abandon the Democratic Party.
West does bear the sole responsibility of encouraging African-Americans to embrace a movement which hindered their basic human rights – not everyone has the luxury of hiding behind a $60m mansion when the times get tough.
Even if a small fraction of African-Americans agreed to West’s point of view with his anti-democratic ramblings and Trump’s support, it can really tip the balance in the close midterm elections. However, after being associated with Trump, Kanye West is more like an outdated which is no longer in fashion. This mess which has been created is surely of his own doing and if he wants to make things right and become someone that people may look up to, then he surely needs to do more than give pocket change in the form of donations to counter his reckless and uneducated associations and interventions.
