Celebrating diversity with the latest H&M designs
H&M is well known for making high luxury fashion more affordable and accessible to everyone with their unique collaborations with famous high-end designers like Karl Lagerfeld to Balmain, to Comme des Garcons, Versace, Kenzo to Jimmy Choo and Maison Margiela.
With a successful collaboration with Erdem last year, this year H&M is gearing up to collaborate with the famous Italian fashion house Moschino helmed by Jeremy Scott, who announced their collaboration recently, the Moschino [tv] H&M in April, during the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. This news created some vibes in the fashion industry!
With such a collaboration, what comes to mind is the symbolic pop culture references that he brought to the brand since 2013, when he became the Creative Director and adapted the iconography of Barbie, McDonalds, Candy Crush, The Loony Tunes characters, SpongeBob SquarePants and many more. Now, almost six months down the road, we do have an idea about what to expect from this fashion collaboration as we finally have a complete look at their 114 piece collection which includes menswear as well as woman’s wear. The look book is styled and shot by Scott’s old time collaborator’s photographer Marcus Mam and the styling is done by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, which was quite expected. The look book surely seems like a celebration of diversity!
Scott made sure this collection was full of love and diversity as he gathered his close-knit friends and family to spread positivity with this high energy collection. It features the RuPaul Drag Race winner, Aquaria, another transgender model Teddy Quinlivan as well as a body positive and activist model called Barbie Ferreira, Scott’s assistant Sakura Bready, influencer twin models Amiaya (Aya and Ami) and even the Moschino head of Global PR and communications Pablo Olea amongst the list. According to Scott, whenever he designs, he thinks about his friends and according to him, this Moschino [tv] H&M collection is more like a party, through which you can celebrate the fun, creativity, pop as well as the energy of the collection and the people who are associated with it.
This much anticipated range has been described as a ‘loud and proud collection’ which they want everyone to enjoy and share in a fun, no matter where you are from, according to the creative director at H&M, Ann-Sofie Johansson. She further added that this collection is the best collaboration for fashion for now as it is able to mix the street culture, pop, the logos as well as the glamour. She commented that Scott is amazing in this way as he is the best person to know how to have fun with fashion and to connect with his fans which may be all over the world. Nonetheless, this collection by Moschino [tv] H&M is surely an unusual one which has a lot of accessories to offer than any other H&M collaborations, which is more like how Moschino is like, where they believe on more the merrier.
It includes the standard Moschino teddy bear plushy style phone case, hand bags which are in the shape of a metal padlock, funky leather jackets and the most interesting invention is the amalgamation of the logos which actually broke the long-established rule of H&M of never using their logos on the exterior of their clothing. Scott has incorporated the alphabetical elements for the logo in this collaboration of their collection. The logo reads H&MOSCHINOn which is printed on the innerwear, t-shirts as well as on many accessories. This much awaited loud and fearless collection comes into stores and online for purchase on November 8.
