For a decade, Field Day was exclusively arranged at Victoria Park. This year marked a change for the event as it was instead held at Brockwell Park. However due to certain problems i.e. attendees complaining about overcrowding along with local residents expressing their dislike for the event’s location, it was ultimately decided to once again move the event for 2019.
The site has now been confirmed to be towards the North, at Meridian Water in Enfield; an expansive outdoor area with 4 inter-connected warehouses. Organisers have boasted that among these warehouses, one of them is capable of accommodating up to 7,500 revellers, marking the warehouse venue as the largest of its kind within the capitol. For comparison’s sake, the south London mega club Printworks can only manage up to 4,000.
It has also been claimed by organisers, that securing this space will allow the festival to run later as well as being a lot louder than any other festival being held within the capitol. It’s argued that the remote-ness of the location is why this can be achieved; the warehouses were converted from a gasworks and are situated near Tottenham Marshes, meaning there are fewer local residents to alienate. No official curfew has come to light as of yet, however due to strict licensing laws, festivals have not been allowed to run past 11pm.
Also worth mentioning, is the fact that London’s regulatory councils have been keeping a closer eye on festivals more so lately than usual; which is to say that they’re being a lot less lenient with regard to licenses. An example of this would be Wireless Festival, which was told that they were expected to meet certain conditions if they wanted their licence approved. These conditions were as follows: an early curfew time, reduced noise levels, and that artists are made aware that they cannot perform any ‘vulgar, obscene or banned songs.’
Hosting Field Day Festival in Meridian Water is part of a long term, 20-year regeneration plan being carried out by the Enfield Council to revive and revitalise the site. The idea is to help it become a vibrant location for nightlife and the arts. It looks like the people of Enfield have a lot to look forward to in these upcoming years.
If you wish to attend the Field Day Festival (being held on June 7th-8th 2019), tickets have been made available for purchase from Thursday, November 22nd onwards.
