A highly organised gang of nine have been served their prison sentences today. This is after these individuals have committed nearly £120,000 worth of fraud using compromised credit card details to purchase expensive electrical goods over a period of five days.
The arrest took place in Bristol with the guilty parties being caught after buying computers and phones from the local high street stores. These purchases were made through ApplePay using the already compromised bank details of customers. The first instance of fraud perpetrated by this gang came to light in November 2015, identified by Lloyds Bank. From here, it was forwarded to the DCPCU or the Dedicated Card and Payment Crime Unit.
Some of the perpetrators have been identified as hailing from Leicester and are named:
- Hamsa Dinle
- Anwar Mohammed Mire
- Sakariye Issa
- Soubane Ismail
All nine have confessed to their role in the crime by admitting to fraud by false representation and joint enterprise. They were given custodial sentences including 3 years in custody, suspended sentences and community work.
Matt Cornell, Detective Constable of the Dedicated Card and Payment Crime Unit, has gone on record to admit how the gang was highly organised and how it committed thousands of pounds worth of fraud using stolen credit cards. He further stated that resolving this matter sends a positive message about the dedication of banks and the police in addressing instances of fraud and will hopefully discourage others from perpetrating similar crimes.
Soubane Ismail’s offences are recorded as fraud by false representation and possession of articles used in fraud. His issued sentence is 15 months of imprisonment. This took place on Friday, November 23rd, at the Woolwich Crown Court. He is the last remaining member to receive a sentence as the other eight admitted to their dealings back on 29th September 2017 and received their sentences by November of the same year.
These sentences include three years of imprisonment for Taurus Close resident Libyan Yaryare (aged 22), followed by two years and three months of imprisonment for Osmaston Road resident Hamsa Dinle (aged 23) and 15 months of imprisonment for Bedale Drive resident Abdirabi Buux (aged 24). As for the other guilty parties, they all were issued suspended prison sentences that all ranged somewhere between six months (minimum) and fifteen months (maximum).
