Democrat Runners Gather Millions of Cash in Campaigns
Democrats have gotten some footing in the House of Representatives in the US midterms. However, if they are to take power back from the Republicans in 2020, much more work is needed. There is a huge list of candidates for the party’s nomination, which is said to be one of the largest lists ever assembled.
According to reports, Senator Elizabeth Warren has had the most successful fundraiser as she was able to raise around $35.5 million since Trump won office in 2016. Warren is one of the Democrat Party’s candidates for the 2020 presidential nominations. She has the most cash compared to any of the other candidates who have filed public reports.
It isn’t yet completely confirmed, but she might be considering a potential candidacy for the presidential nomination in 2020. Warren has $12.5 million in her campaign account after her recent victory in Massachusetts and now, she can easily transfer a portion of this amount to a potential presidential bid too.
Beto O’Rourke, a representative of Texas, is another successful fundraiser of the 2018 campaign. However, he doesn’t have much left over from his unsuccessful mid-term campaign against Senator Ted Cruz. It is reported that Beto O’Rourke has just $476,692 left after spending around $77.6 million in the campaign, which is the lowest balance for the White House bids. The Senator has, however, shown an ability to raise a lot of money in a short amount of time. As an example, he was able to raise $38 million for Senate candidates in the third quarter of 2018.
Campaign Details
There are some senators who might go for White House bids such as Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, and Jeff Merkley. They didn’t have to report their fundraising results because they didn’t face any voters in the recent campaign. Rourke and Warren were among those who had to report their total collections to the Federal Election Commission. Numerous other candidates are expected to reveal their intentions to contest in the elections around January and February 2019. Most presidential candidates will raise millions of dollars to prove their credibility for the presidential elections.
Reports from Trump’s Campaign
Trump has already been raising money to secure his second term in office as President. He has now more than $100 million collected after he took office in 2016. Last month’s midterm congressional elections proved to be an opportunity for the potential Democratic challengers and Trump to gather the details of their donors and supporters. Other Democrats outside of Washington have also confirmed that they are considering bids.
If it’s all about fundraising, three billionaires don’t have to worry much about the Democratic nomination contests. These billionaires include former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Tom Steyer, and Howard Schultz, who is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks.
For others, there’s ActBlue, which is a political action committee that raised $1.6 billion in the 2018 election campaigns. This committee acts as an online transaction conduit for Democrats.
