Max Comtois Named Captain for Canada During the World Juniors
The Anaheim Ducks experienced a great moment in the spotlight during the World Juniors. One of their prospects, Max Comtois, was recently named the Canadian captain for the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Alternate captains were also named: Jaret Anderson-Dolan from the Los Angeles Kings, Evan Bouchard from the Edmonton Oilers, and Ian Mitchell from the Chicago Blackhawks.
This milestone achievement was hardly a surprise for anyone keeping score of the player’s progress. Comtois is the only player that was a part of last year’s gold medal run. He also has the most NHL experience on his team.
Max was welcomed into the Anaheim Ducks this season because of coincidental circumstances. The Ducks were facing a loss of several of their members due to injuries. A string of forwards like Corey Perry, Ondrej Kase, and many other had been left in the sidelines. This was an opportune moment for the promising player to sweep in and play with the team.
Comtois has been playing 10 games with the Ducks so far, and his stats speak for themselves. From those 10 games, he was able to secure 2 goals and 5 assists. Both of the goals were made in his first two games on breakaways.
Comtois isn’t just valued due to his ability to be a great player. He’s also been lauded for his excellent sportsmanship and conduct both on and off the field. Canadian coach Tim Hunter has high words of praise for the young player. He commented, “He’s a leader in the locker room. He’s a leader off the ice. He’s led all the way through this on all the little details and the mindset we want, and he’s played like a leader on the ice so [we] really felt comfortable with Max. I know him well and have a good relationship with him.”
Clearly, Max Comtois lives up to the expectations of an ideal captain. Not only does he deliver great performance, but he also possesses sound decision-making and leadership abilities.
