A big donation of $100,000 from the Presidential Salary to Homeland Security by Donald Trump
During election campaign in 2016, Donald Trump vowed that he will take only $1 from his $400,000 yearly presidential salary. The rest of the amount will be donated to various agencies for the protection and development of the homeland, America.
Seems like he delivered his promise. Recently, he donated $100,000 of his salary to the Homeland Security Department and tweeted the picture of a cheque as proof, saying “While the press doesn’t like writing about this, nor do I need them to, I donate my yearly Presidential salary of $400,000.00 to different agencies throughout the year, this to Homeland Security. If I didn’t do it there would be hell to pay from the FAKE NEWS MEDIA!
He meant through this tweet that using news outlets may have claimed he did not make the donations, but here he showed a solid proof to the whole country so that it would be very clear.
As the President is paid his salary quarterly under US law, Donald Trump donates his quarterly in $100,000 payments to various agencies.
Ever since he entered Oval Office, he has donated a good amount to many different agencies. According to various statements by his administration, Trump has donated money to the organizations led by government against opioid addiction as well as to a camp aimed at promoting scientific and technological careers.
Apart from this, he had made significant contributions to the Department of Veteran Affairs, the Department of Education, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Park Service.
Well, not only this, as Donald Trump donated $100,000 to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism recently in January. Mr. Trump himself never drinks and is totally against alcoholism as his brother Fred Jr, died fighting with alcoholism.
In the past, Donald Trump has been criticized for not publicizing his tax returns. As per new legislation passed in US last week by some states, his name will not appear on the voting ballots until and unless he releases his tax returns.
This means that all the candidates for Presidential elections including Donald Trump will have to release their tax return of the last 5 years to get their names on the voting ballots.
Another criticism faced by the President is regarding the personal profits being made from the foreign governments such as embassies and dignitaries and other government representatives. As per the statistics revealed by Trump Organization last month, the profits have been reportedly increased by 26% from last year, producing a $191,000 net income for the family business of Donald Trump.
However, the criticism was responded to by the same amount being donated to the US Treasury. The same donation has been made in the second year in order to block the attempts of criticism.
This has highly benefited the position of Donald Trump as US President. The question that whether these acts are going to favor Trump in next Presidential elections coming next year still remains to be seen.
