Sara Rose Hougom Foundation’s Donation for Local Kids
It is not in our hands to prevent our loved ones from leaving the world, but we can work to make this world a better place to live in. This is what Sara Rose Hougom’s parents believe in. The couple lost their 20-year-old daughter in a shooting during a break-in around seven years ago. A young life was ruthlessly put to an end as a burglar broke into her apartment to take her purse and shot her in the process. The culprits have been brought to justice and jailed, but this was not enough for the grieving parents who wanted to do more in honor of their loving daughter, and this is why the Sara Rose Hougom Foundation was set up.
This nonprofit organization has set up a lot of charity events, as it endeavors to make the world a happier place. Recently, the foundation visited the Boys and Girls Club of West Salem for distributing bags. These bags contained school supplies and stuffed animals among other things. Five police agencies which were present there were also given bags to distribute to other kids in the community.
According to Sara’s mother, Sherry Hougom, this was a way to form a bond with the community. A little smile, a bit of encouragement and a few kind words can change the lives of these kids. Via these events, the foundation hopes to remove the paranoia around law enforcement and build trust between them and the kids.
Things might take longer to change, but the foundation is doing everything it can for the betterment of the community. This is something that must be applauded. Via this foundation, the grieving parents have found solace in the fact that they are doing something their daughter would be proud of. Sara was a caring daughter and a helpful friend. These little gestures make sure that Sara remains alive in memories. Her parents can see their daughter in the smiles of these little kids, which gives them the courage to get on with their life.
