Police search for man who poured scalding hot coffee on baby in a park
Manhunt Launched for Suspect in Brisbane Baby Scalding
Queensland Police have initiated an international search for a 33-year-old suspect accused of committing a heinous crime against a nine-month-old baby in Brisbane. The incident, described by Detective Paul Dalton as “the most cowardly” he has witnessed in his decades-long career, occurred at a family picnic in late August.
Serious Burns Inflicted with Scalding Coffee
The baby suffered severe burns after the suspect, believed to be an itinerant worker, allegedly poured scalding coffee over its face and limbs. The infant required multiple surgeries to treat the extensive injuries.
Suspect’s Motive Unknown
Police remain puzzled by the suspect’s motive as he had no prior connection to the family. He is currently believed to be residing in an undisclosed country.
Intention to Cause Grave Bodily Harm
The suspect has been charged with intending to cause grave bodily harm, an offense that carries a potential life sentence.
Flight from Justice
According to BBC News, the suspect fled Australia via Sydney airport six days after the incident and approximately 12 hours before his identity was confirmed. He is believed to have traveled to Australia multiple times since 2019 for work and had known addresses in New South Wales and Victoria.
Undisclosed Location and Identity
Dalton declined to disclose the country where the suspect is believed to be located or provide further details that could jeopardize the investigation. He vowed that police efforts would “doggedly and determinedly” continue until the suspect is apprehended.
Unwavering Commitment to Justice
Dalton emphasized the force’s unwavering commitment to bring the suspect to justice. “We will not rest until we find you,” he stated, adding that the police were “fully committed to doing everything we possibly can lawfully to get this person back here to face justice.”
