Woman steals nearly $40,000 from man she met at Las Vegas casino
Woman Accused of Stealing $40,000 from Las Vegas Casino Acquaintance
On June 12, a man at a Las Vegas Strip casino met and socialized with a woman, later inviting her to his apartment. However, he awoke the following day to discover $600 in cash missing.
Financial Losses Revealed
Upon reviewing his bank statement, the man discovered a negative balance of $6,500, despite an initial balance of $17,000. Email notifications also alerted him to a $4,912 Venmo transaction and a $17,500 transfer from his cryptocurrency account. His total loss amounted to approximately $40,000.
Casino Surveillance Footage and Identification
Police obtained casino surveillance footage that captured the woman leaving the property. The victim, despite limited recollections of the evening, expressed confidence in recognizing the woman. Through this footage, the suspect was identified as Monica Falcon.
Background of Suspect
Court records indicate that Falcon has previous charges for soliciting, engaging in prostitution, and trespassing. Investigators attempted to contact Falcon, but she declined to provide a statement.
Arrest and Charges
In August, Falcon was apprehended and charged with theft in the amount of $25,000 or more but less than $100,000. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 4th.
Statement from Victim
“I met this woman at the casino, and I invited her back to my place. I woke up the next day, and a lot of my money was gone. I’m still trying to figure out how it happened, but I’m glad the police were able to track her down.”
Precautionary Measures
Detective Sergeant Michael Duong of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department urges caution when meeting strangers, especially in public settings. “It’s important to be aware of your surroundings and to not trust everyone you meet,” he advises. “If you’re going to invite someone back to your place, make sure you know who they are and that you can trust them.”
