Missing Taiwan High School Student Located in Myanmar
A high school student in Pingtung County, Taiwan, has been reported missing, and his most recent mobile phone location has been traced to Myanmar, raising concerns about his safety. Authorities suspect that the missing student may have connections to a 22-year-old male named Guo, who is believed to be his former high school senior. Pingtung County Police Bureau Commissioner Chen Jia-yu confirmed the disappearance of the student, identified only by his surname Lin. According to Chen, Lin was last seen on August 12th, 2023, leaving his home in Pingtung City. His family reported him missing the following day after failing to make contact with him. Investigators traced Lin’s mobile phone activity and discovered that it had last pinged in Taungoo, Myanmar, on August 15th, three days after his disappearance. The police have reached out to Interpol for assistance in locating Lin and determining whether he is in danger. Authorities have also identified Guo as a potential suspect in the case. Guo is a 22-year-old who graduated from Lin’s former high school. According to Pingtung County Police Bureau Spokesperson Chen Chih-sheng, Guo has been known to have connections with illegal organizations in Myanmar. Investigators are currently exploring the possibility that Guo may have lured Lin to Myanmar with promises of employment or other opportunities. However, the exact circumstances of Lin’s disappearance remain unclear.
Investigation Underway, Public Cooperation Requested
The Pingtung County Police Bureau is actively investigating the case and has deployed a specialized task force to assist in the search for Lin. Authorities are working closely with Interpol and other international law enforcement agencies to gather information and track down potential leads. Commissioner Chen emphasized the importance of public cooperation in solving the case. He urged anyone with information about Lin’s whereabouts or any suspicious activities involving Guo to come forward and assist the police.
Concern for Student’s Safety
The disappearance of Lin has heightened concerns among the student community and parents in Pingtung County. The Taiwan Senior Citizens’ Rights Promotion Association has condemned the incident and expressed its support for the family’s efforts to locate their son. “This case highlights the dangers that young people face online and the importance of parental supervision,” said association spokesperson Liu Su-mei. “We urge all students to be cautious about interacting with strangers on social media and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.”
Case Remains Open
As of this writing, Lin’s whereabouts remain unknown. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are determined to pursue every possible lead to ensure his safety and bring those responsible to justice.
