NMSI Partners with DoD to Enhance STEM Education Nationwide
The National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) has been awarded a significant 10-year contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) as part of the Defense Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education Consortium (DSEC) Cooperative Agreement. This agreement grants $190 million to the Research Triangle Institute (RTI) and its network of partners, including NMSI, to support STEM education initiatives.
NMSI’s Role in Empowering Educators
NMSI’s portion of the funding will be utilized to provide rigorous professional development services to equip educators with the confidence and proficiency required to excel in teaching STEM subjects. This effort aligns with NMSI’s mission to provide every student, particularly those facing disadvantages, with equitable access to a comprehensive STEM education.
Jeremy Anderson’s Statement
“This opportunity enables us to extend our impact by empowering both educators and students,” said Jeremy Anderson, CEO of NMSI. “We emphasize the crucial role young minds play in shaping our nation’s future and are committed to strengthening the support systems that will help our students thrive.”
DSEC’s Mission and Alignment with NMSI
DSEC’s focus on promoting effective STEM initiatives for pre-K–12 students and educators aligns with NMSI’s commitment to building a solid foundation that equips students with leadership skills, allows them to reach their full potential, and prepares them for the future needs of their country.
Addressing the DoD’s Demand for Skilled STEM Professionals
This agreement emphasizes the DoD’s ongoing need for skilled STEM professionals to address the complex challenges in national defense. Through data-driven analysis and technical expertise, NMSI and its fellow members of the RTI consortium will provide a range of research and insights focused on advancing STEM education and workforce development.
