Man’s Violent Rampage Lands Him Behind Bars After Ex Receives Flowers at Nightclub
“Jealous Rage Unleashed: Man’s Violent Rampage Lands Him Behind Bars After Ex Receives Flowers at Nightclub”
SINGAPORE — A night of jealousy and fury culminated in horror as 26-year-old Zachary Chung Wei Yik brutally attacked his ex-girlfriend, a South Korean nightclub hostess, in a shocking display of rage.
Fueled by jealousy after witnessing another man buy flowers for his ex-girlfriend at the upscale Orchard-area club where she worked, Chung spent an eye-watering S$1,300 to outshine the rival patron before violently confronting her hours later.
The chilling incident unfolded on Sep 12, 2023. As the woman returned to her home in the early hours, she found her ex-boyfriend lurking, holding the key she had misplaced. Without warning, he unleashed a frenzied assault, raining punches and kicks on her face and head, demanding the identity of the man she had left the club with.
In a disturbing twist, Chung dragged the victim into her own home, where the violence escalated further. He shredded her clothing and even slashed a beloved soft toy, leaving a trail of destruction.
The victim, left bruised, battered, and emotionally shattered, endured displaced cosmetic fillers from the blows to her face. She was only able to resume work more than a month later, following treatment in South Korea.
“Brutal and Unprovoked”
Prosecutors described the attack as “brutal,” emphasizing Chung’s deliberate targeting of the victim’s head and face. Although he later paid S$1,600 toward her medical expenses, this act of “restitution” came only after the victim revealed she couldn’t afford the bills herself.
Defence: “A Frenzied Outburst”
Chung’s lawyer argued that his actions stemmed from a loss of emotional control in the context of mutual accusations of infidelity. However, District Judge James Elisha Lee dismissed these claims, highlighting the one-sided nature of the attack and the victim’s complete lack of provocation.
A Sentence Too Light?
Chung received a mere one-week jail sentence, sparking debate over whether justice was served for the harrowing ordeal endured by his ex-girlfriend. Critics argue the leniency of the punishment sends a troubling message about accountability for violence against women.
This harrowing case underscores the devastating consequences of unchecked rage and jealousy, leaving scars—both physical and emotional—that may last a lifetime.
