Musk has obtained a top-secret level clearance but lacks the higher clearances necessary for SpaceX’s Starshield program, which supplies spy satellites to intelligence agencies.

Starshield facilities, where sensitive information about SpaceX’s spy satellite program is handled, demand even more stringent clearances. Musk does not possess clearances for either “sensitive compartmentalized information” or “special access programs,” restricting his physical access and information availability.
